I am fostering a dog that has been in a kennel for 2 years because she nipped at people. She bonded immediately with me and behaved for 2 weeks -- until tonight. She has bit me twice (and behaved lovingly in the meantime). ??? Any advice?
Editor's note: The following response comes from an experienced professional dog trainer with expertise in canine behavior modification.

Without knowing the breed or the specific nature of the biting, it is difficult to give you a precise answer. Dogs can bite for various reasons. For example, some dogs bite when they play and it may be difficult to distinguish between aggressive biting and play biting.

Your dog could be intimidated by you or fearful or even shy. Your own behavior, if you are skittish, for example, may cause her to bite and without seeing her in action, it would be difficult to give advice.

Your best course of action would be to take her to a professional trainer for obedience lessons. I feel that at least 6 to 8 sessions with a trainer would be needed, along with your patience.
