I have posted in the Dealing With Grief section about losing a dog in another state. I just want to say to those who have lost dogs to not give up the search. We lost our dog in another state almost 2 months ago. Many people have told us that she is surely dead by now and to just give up. But one person has seen the ads in the paper and has seen us driving around and calling. So she organized the neighborhood and our dog has been seen by many people. We are now getting a pattern to her movements and know that she is only coming out only at night. We have a feeding program going and I am hoping with all my heart that we will be able to retrieve her. She has managed to live on her own for 7 weeks and because I believed in her spirit and will to live she still has a chance to be found. I could have given up, especially with animal control and other "experts" telling me that I didn't know what I was talking about. So if you've lost a dog...hang in there and keep trying new ideas. DON'T GIVE UP!

I'm posting a follow-up to the above message. Today is Nov. 25, 2000, and we just got home from Coeur d'Alene, ID with our dog Spanky Lou. I never gave up looking for her and had a hard time convincing people to help, because they all believed that she couldn't survive that long (almost 4 months), but she did. She is thin, but not emaciated and she seems tired. But she is the same sweet, gentle dog we lost July 30, 2000. Please don't give up hope on your pet. The biggest help I had from the net was the success stories and I'm happy to add one of my own. Good luck to all who have lost their pets. I know what a heartbreak it is for you, but keep trying and trying and trying -- it just may pay off.

| Clayton Pederson | I just read Linda's postings and it gives me alot of hope in finding our dog. We live in SD and lost our beloved Chico in MN over 400 miles from home on New Years Eve. It is a long story. Anyway it is coming on a month now and we are still praying for his safe return. We did everything a person can do I think and stayed an extra 12 days searching for him in the Eden Prairie and Chanhassen areas of the Twin Cities where he was lost and spotted on 4 different occasions. We also met a very nice couple who has been helping us search and had many, many different people join our search also. The two that have stayed on, have also had alot of help from their friends and have continued the search after we had to return home to our ranch. They are truly a blessing and have been our eyes and ears out there ever since. We stay in contact daily and are confident we will find Chico, it will just take time. I just want to thank Linda for her story and can't wait until I can post my successful news as well someday. Thanks Clay P. | |||||

| Clayton Pederson | Clayton Pederson I am happy to report, that after 35 days of being missing and on the run in MN, Chico is now back home safe and sound. He was 14 pounds lighter, but other than that, he was in good shape. Chico even made the news on Channel 5 out there with his story. We took out adds in about 12 newspapers and they paid off, after a sighting in the area. We started getting a few calls then, and tracking his sightings and then we got the call we were waiting for, a dairy farmer called our contact out in MN and said that Chico had been coming into their farmyard feeding on a dead calf and running around with their dogs. I called right away for more information and then sent them some more pictures, in color, by e-mail to verify it. They were 99 % sure it was our dog, so at 6 in the evening we headed out to MN from SD, driving all night and arriving about 1:30 in the morning. We slept for about three hours and then headed out for the dairy farm to stake it out and wait. We were there right about daybreak and waited only about 20 - 30 minutes, when Chico came trotting up the road. There he was, so we got out and called to him, but he was reluctant to come and started to walk away slowly, but looking back like he should know us. Finally after several attempts my wife told him to sit and he did. Then she told him to get his ball, and it clicked in his head, and run right for her and jumped into her arms. Then he started whining and wimpering as if he was crying with happiness. Was quite the scene and then he came runnnig to me as to say, "hello, where have you been?" The best part was, that the people that were helping us out there after we had to leave, were there to share in the reunion. They came out with us in the early morning light to help and were able to watch all of this unfold as Chico came to us and was finally found. I just want to tell everyone, DON'T GIVE UP AND DON'T LET OTHERS CONVINCE YOU TO GIVE UP. We never did and our faith kept us strong through the entire time of searching. God sent us our angel in Lori, for all her help and persisitance as well. When we had to leave for home after 12 days of searching, she then followed up on all the leads, and sightings, making calls, going to those places, and keeping us informed and giving us hope as well. Thanks to everyone who helped us find Chico. It has been quite an eye opening experience and I have met some really good people and gained some great new friends in this search as well. | Clayton Pederson | One thing I forgot to mention in Chico's story was that he was found on 2-3-05. He made it through all the cold weather and snow. Clayton Pederson | |||||

Well I have read the above messages and yes I still have alot of hope of finding our dog Scooby-Doo. It has be just over a year since he went missing, but believe he was taken. :-( We dont live in the same home anymore but in the same area, and I feel if he could get away he would make his way back to his family..People can be so cruel. Not sure what to do anymore except to keep my eyes open and travel through the areas we use to live.
