A Benevolent Attitude
K-9 cruisers in Philadelphia will soon be equipped with a system that can sense if the automobile gets too hot inside and if so, automatically rolls down the windows and sets the siren off. These special Fidos can thank Kal Rudman, a philanthropist who is footing the bill; He has already bought bulletproof vests for Philadelphia's police dogs.

Rudman told the Associated Press that he is a dog lover and thought the price tag of 400-dollars per car was low compared to what the city gets in return.

This charitable act was prompted by the news that Woodrow, a 5-year-old K-9 German shepherd, died recently after his handler apparently forgot to take the dog out of the car following their shift. The new equipment, says Capt. Alan Kurtz of Philadelphia's canine and mounted police units, will go along way to eliminating the possibility of this ever happening again.

The Rescue CoolGuard alert system is made by American Aluminum Accessories of Perry, Fla. It works on sensors that monitor temperature inside the cruiser. When that temperature reaches 88 degrees, the system rolls down the cruiser's windows, activates a cooling fan and sounds a horn or siren.

FindFido thinks Kal Rudman is a hero. We hope that his example will be a catalyst for like-minded individuals or companies in other cities to do the same.
